Fighting cold and flu season with green chile chicken soup

Snow is falling in the mountains, which not only means that winter is coming, but that cold and flu season is also on its way. I realized this when the end caps at my grocery store were lined with NyQuil,…

Instagram post 2190236809388423857_310462367 🤓 Obligatory Instagram vacation photo 🤓⁣
⁣
📣 Incase you forgot, vacations are the best. Everyone needs pto & should use it (even if that means a staycay!). ⁣
⁣
But anyway, life by the ocean always seems to get rid of all the crap my body feels. Pain sucks. ⁣
No access to work emails and vacation time helps, but I’m really just selling life in the Caribbean here. Actually, I’m not, don’t come here. It’s horrible. You’ll hate it.⁣ 🏖⁣

Instagram post 2186677851293952528_310462367 Apparently, people have a thing for tiles so I stood there looking at the floor hoping that some money would be there. I read it in one of those touristy travel guides to Miami and I don’t get it. 🤔⁣
⁣
If you like tiles, can you please explain this to me?⁣
⁣
That being said, I’m very impressed someone spent time painting these little squares. But I don’t think I’ll keep staring at the floor today or travel somewhere just for a tile.

Instagram post 2184751320829150055_310462367 🏖 When I went to Miami, I decided to take an uber to Little Havana. And wow this place is so different (especially from Utah!!! 🙀). I ended up at Domino Park, which is where a lot of Cubans hang out and play.⁣
⁣
Apparently you have to be 55 yrs old in order to play dominoes. So I walked around and took photos, but then this man jumped up and started posing 💪 so I felt awkward and left cause I had no fricken clue what he was saying (not English). #NMProbs I’m still really confused on what really happened there. ⁣
⁣
🤓 Not sure when I’ll fully understand Spanish, but I’m totally fine with enjoying tamales and pretending I’m totally oblivious to what the viejas are talking about.👵 ⁣

Instagram post 2174903611657905524_310462367 🐓 Meet Pepe. Pepe is kind of a big deal in Little Havana (Rooster of Moron’s cousin). Roosters are kind of a big deal out here, helping to symbolize what happens when you’re an arrogant fool (you’ll be plucked featherless).⁣
⁣
Meeting people and hearing their version of a story is so fascinating to me (when done is a manner that is polite and not accusatory).⁣
⁣
I enjoy traveling because I get to see how other people live around the world. My first solo trip in 2008 completely changed my world view and allowed me to acknowledge and understand how fortunate I am to be born/raised in my country (dare I use #blessed for that? 😬). And how grateful I am to my grandparents and all the other people who fight for my freedom.⁣
⁣
Speaking of which, traveling also exposes you to a different rhetoric. 📝 It’s so weird to hear how great the Cubans were at stopping the Americans when you’re taught about the lives lost and the disaster that was the Bay of Pigs. I heard this rhetoric from an Argentinian traveler, who said it was weird to see our version of the Bay of Pigs monument in Little Havana after visiting Cuba’s museum. 🤷‍♀️ Go figure.⁣

Instagram post 2174132408454338481_310462367 I don’t think I’ve ever been around this many cats at once. There are roughly 40 cats living at Hemingway’s home. 😳 They're around every corner!⁣
⁣
🌟 These cats are all named after famous people and have a vet on-site. #thelife The orange cats talked the most, while the one pictured followed me to a bench and sat in my lap.⁣
⁣
Pro Tip: Don’t visit this house in black clothing as you will immediately be covered head to toe in cat fur. I speak from experience. 😂⁣

Instagram post 2173455457125189053_310462367 You can’t beat Key West this time of year. Hurricane schmuricane. ⁣
⁣
🏖 They have a free bus system that’s super easy to spot (the bus is hot pink) and runs often (except Fed holidays). ⁣
⁣
🏖The locals (apparently called ‘Conchs’) are super helpful. You can always use the lighthouse to help your sense of direction. ⁣
⁣
🏖If you want your vacation/insta photo at the southernmost point, be prepared to stand in line!⁣

Instagram post 2172731406186481498_310462367 🥰 Sharing a photo of my Siberian Husky, Katara. I always miss her talking when on vacation. 🐶 She’s already 9 years old! She has brought so much joy (and fur) in my life. Check out how small she used to be.

While huskies can be very hard to manage (she’s not an off-leash dog and an expert level escape artist🕵️‍♀️), she has been such a good dog. 💖💖💖 #homeiswherethedogis #huskiesofinstagram
