My five favorite snacks for the Super Bowl

Living in the United States, it’s a given that every year you watch the Superbowl, even if it is just for the commercials. A friend of mine hosts a Super Bowl party every year, filled with friends and snacks. Now that I am focusing on eating healthy, I realize that eating several slices of pizza and chicken wings is not something I can work off at the gym the next day. Hello, age. Here are my five favorite snacks for our yearly Super Bowl binge:

Hummus

This middle eastern dish made from chickpeas and sesame seeds is great with carrots, in a wrap, or with flatbread. Take some time out of your next day off and make some from scratch—you’ll be glad you did.

Blue corn chips with salsa

Having lived in the southwest, blue corn is one of my favorite things to enjoy. Add some salsa from El Pinto or Sadies and you are set.

Glutino pretzels

These pretzels are hands down my favorite—I’ve even converted a few friends to this brand who don’t eat gluten-free. Yeah, they’re that good. If I had a dollar for every time I took these pretzels to a party and people didn’t believe they were gluten-free…

Coconut chips

Coconut chips are my current solution to sweet cravings. Look for a brand that uses ingredients you can read. I’m really into dang coconut chips at the moment. Try them on some pancakes for a real sweet treat.

Jalapeño poppers

Now, these are a treat. Reserved for parties where you have a lot of time to prepare this delicacy. I like to put a mix of cream cheese and shredded cheese inside, followed by a nice wrap of bacon. I haven’t come up with a lower calorie version just yet, but I’ll add that to my list for 2018.
